What are Porgies?

Porgies (also known as scup or sea bream) are a diverse family of saltwater fish (Sparidae) found in temperate and tropical waters worldwide. They are particularly popular in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific regions as both game and food fish.

The Peconic Bay is well known for its fantastic Spring and Summer Porgy fishing. These are excellent tasting fish that get up to two feet long and 5 pounds. Their plentiful population and fighting spirit makes them a popular target for fishers.
